The Book of Living
The Book of Living tells the story of Oskar, a young man who was brought back to life with necromancy. Being officially announced dead and having a gaping hole in his stomach, Oskar has no way of returning back to his normal life anymore. Together with Saena, a soul collector whose job is to guide Oskar’s soul to the afterlife, Oskar sets out on a quest to find a way to die and get his soul separated from his now magic fuelled body so he can die again - and this time properly.
However, two soul hunters have gotten a lead of Oskar and if they catch him, Oskar soon has no soul to separate from his body anymore. Getting the taste of living again doesn’t make the matters any better either, and the longer it takes for Oskar and others to finish their quest, the more attached Oskar gets to his new way of existing in this world... |

Oskar woke up feeling more refreshed than ever before, and for a short moment he thought the whole disaster at the construction site had been just a bad dream he saw. In no way would he feel this good if he really had gone through whatever that was. But even with some details still blurry in his head, such as what exactly had hit him and where, he still had an extremely strong belief the accident really had happened.
So, what was the truth?
Darkness surrounding him, Oskar soon came to realize the place he was in right now was neither his own room nor a hospital bed. It wasn’t the construction site either.
Unable to see anything in this darkness, Oskar had to rely on his sense of touch only, and upon closer inspection he could feel there were walls around him. They were so close to him he could barely move. His container was a claustrophobic nightmare.
He would probably soon run out of air in a container like this, and he started hitting the walls with his hands. Much to his own surprise, the moment he hit his hand against the wall it gave away underneath it. Or rather, the wall remained, but Oskar’s arm went through it as smoothly as it was air. Oskar yelped in terror and wriggling around he somehow managed to kick himself out of his container, barely landing on his feet. He now found himself from an unfamiliar room.
The room was large and pitch black, but despite there being no light source anywhere, Oskar found his eyes slowly adjusting to the black room. There were two metallic-looking tables in the room, reminding Oskar of surgeon tables, and the walls of the room had multiple numbered lockers on them.
“Well, this sure isn’t a changing room for surgeons,” Oskar mumbled to himself as a lazy attempt to joke around to calm his already weak nerves. Of course he already knew what this place was.
It was a mortuary.
