Harmonia (Visual Novel)
Harmonia is an artificial human, often referred to as a “homunculus”. Although she was made to be stronger than a human, her frail health deemed her a failed product from the start, capable of only obeying and protecting by instinct. Being able to wake up and “live” was the only thing she was told she truly succeeded in, as the other homunculi had failed even that part. Being kept alive only to gather data, Harmonia is supposed to be put to sleep a week after her birth.
But when her home laboratory catches fire, Harmonia receives a command to escape to the main laboratory on the other side of the town. Having learned to either obey or protect others, Harmonia now has to make her own choices as she tries to survive her way to the main laboratory. For a small homunculus who knows of the outside world but has never been there in her life, dangers and adventure loom behind every corner. The player becomes the homunculus’ free will, helping her out to decide whether she should obey or not, to protect or not to. On her way to the laboratory Harmonia meets many people who all somehow give Harmonia something new to think and consider - both in good and in bad. The game has multiple bad ends and one true end. Harmonia is a project started in June 2015. However, it has its roots back in 2011 already. Due the fact Harmonia is just a side hobby to me, I also have no expectations of it becoming anything more than a hobbyist visual novel. However, I hope people could enjoy Harmonia’s story. |

Characters
Harmonia - Our protagonist and subjct 146. Harmonia is a genderless homunculus born in the laboratory almost solely focusing on homunculi research. She was the first homunculus to finally wake up and stay alive but she was not a finished product and had a frail health. Designed to protect and listen orders, Nia doesn’t have a very strong sense of self yet, but she is learning fast.
Although she struggles with things like saying no and using her own sense of right and wrong, her ability to learn and become an independent creature increase at fast rate as she keeps interacting with others. Her identity is still very vague, but the homunculus seems to already have personal traits such as strong willpower and curiosity. She feels bad about her body titled as a failure and shows signs of insecurity towards it. |
Karen - A mysterious man calling himself “a keykeeper”. He has lived for hundreds of years and has seen and experienced a lot, which is why people respect him greatly. While often seen with a grumpy face, Karen is actually not as bad as he appears - or claims - to be like. The well being of others is very important to him and he helps others without asking anything in return. He can be cynical and sarcastic or kind and soft-spoken solely depending on what is needed for the situation. He might be a little hard to figure out, but his good intentions are always genuine and easy to see.
He has plants growing around his upper body but he sometimes plucks them out in order to look more human - which is what he is. Even if a keykeeper, Karen was born a human and has no magical abilities aside from his awakened hidden magic of “repairing things that can’t be fixed”. |
