Oskar is the protagonist of a novel The Book of Living - Elävien kirja. Determined and responsible, Oskar is an undead with a pure soul seeking a peaceful death. Although he often lacks self-discipline and is prone to procrastinating, he is the strategist of the group and takes his job seriously. His down-to-earth approach to things balances out the rest of his group. He is a friend to Nora, Rita, Janelle and Miro and is working together with a soul hunter called Saena. In one of his many bad end scenarios, he ends up living with Karen. Oskar is one of the secondary central characters of the World X AppearanceOskar is an average-sized young man with no noticeable features and a very balanced body ratio. He has a very good posture and is considerably flexible. He has amber coloured eyes and light blond, soft and somewhat messy hair cut short in a layered manner. His skin is light and pink-ish in tone, and he has very light, barely noticeable freckles. His nose is slightly bigger than average.
As undead, he has a hole in his stomach and bruises all over his body, most noticeably around his stomach and inner areas of his arms. He has scratches and stitches around his stomach area, arms, chest and hands. Oskar usually covers his hands with bandages and also wraps a bandage around his stomach, making it enough it doesn't easily reveal the hole inside him. His eye area also gains more colour with slight dark circles and orange and red colour around his eyes, giving him a somewhat sick look. He doesn’t bleed but wounds appear on him and he can bruise. The bruises and wounds from his death remain but other bruises and wounds disappear on their own. They are not completely real wounds and his body just imitates the damage (Nora enchanted Oskar’s body like that). Although not considerably short, Oskar is one of the shortest characters in his respective story, only taller than Nora and Miro. |

Personality
*Descriptions underneath apply to Oskar in the beginning of the story. However, his character is naturally going to change throughout the story.
If you had to describe Oskar with one term only, it would probably be “calm”. A very dominant part of his nature is the fact he doesn’t get excited very easily and rarely takes part of exciting things. Oskar prefers to do things at his own peace and he is more of an observer than a doer. He does, however, lend his hand more than happily if he is asked to help or if he sees his friends need him. Oskar’s humour is often very sarcastic or heavily based on the humour of wrong timing/overly serious tone. He is not a clown and doesn’t intend to make people laugh but he has a habit of commenting things in a way that most people find hilarious.
Although very friendly by nature, Oskar is somewhat reserved and usually doesn’t warm up to people really fast. He needs to get adjusted to the people around him before he feels comfortable enough with them. This, however, is sometimes hard to notice as Oskar gets along with people well and makes acquaintances quite easily, especially if shared goals are involved. These relationships often end up being quite shallow though, limited to working together when needed to and occasional “hello"s. Knowing he has allies all around him makes the boy feel more secure and that’s why he doesn’t feel the need for that many actual, close friends. Oskar is also not exactly the best kind of leader type: he prefers following orders rather than making them and is very independent, expecting people do their part while he does his. However, he is capable of good teamwork if required, and because of his ability to keep himself calm in most situations, he often ends up being the leader in spirit. Commander, however, he is not.
He is very patient which might have influenced in his love for problem solving. He is one of the tops of his class in maths and he enjoys all sort of puzzles a lot, especially riddles (because of their challenge) and conundrums. But while Oskar is quite clever and observant, he has his unpleasant side too. Oskar lacks strict self-discipline and easily gives in to temptations, often resulting in missed or almost missed deadlines. He also needs people around him or he starts feeling really antsy and has a habit of reacting to things dramatically when under stress.
The boy doesn’t have a very clear dislike of conflict situations, but he prefers avoiding them if he just can. In situations where things heat up, Oskar usually can keep his cool. However, his approach is not always the best kind of and people often complain Oskar is being too docile and “not taking this seriously”; he rarely can choose only one opinion to agree with.

Family
Oskar’s mother is called Maria. She is a busy woman with high education and good job, meaning she is not as much home as her husband is. Maria is very goal-oriented and persistent and Oskar probably got those features from her. She used to paint when Oskar was small but as she got better position at work, she hasn’t had as much time for arts. She is a boss of a local IT company.
Oskar’s father is a man of few words: he isn’t very talkative and whenever he is working, he does it in silence. However, when he does talk, he usually chooses his words very carefully and has the ability to cheer his children and wife up almost always. Oskar's father’s name is Joe and he often jokes about being “your average Joe”. Joe’s hobby is carving and he works in an office.
The oldest in the family is Jenna (24). She lives on her own already and is studying in university, aiming to become a doctor. Very aware of her position as the oldest, Jenna is very responsible but also someone you don’t want to anger. She likes to read historical fiction and is often described as “handsome”. Because of his and his big sister’s age difference, she and Oskar are somewhat distant to each other.
Oskar is the oldest and only son of the family and some work such as moving heavy objects fell for him - despite the fact he is not much stronger than his little sister, let alone his big sister.
The youngest is Mina (15), a silent girl but well-liked girl with many friends whom she spends time with. Mina likes to watch movies late at night and have sleepovers with other girls her age.

Abilities
Oskar is very used to doing physical labor at home and as such he has been able to exercise. He has a rather good stamina and is in a good fit thanks to the self defense he took 2 years before his death (the one he practiced relied heavily on a sword like weapon). He is still not particularly strong, however, and he relies more on his speed and flexibility as well as precision than actual raw power. He fights the best with objects he can wield such as pipes and sturdy branches.
His true abilities are elsewhere, however: Oskar excels in being a strategist and he has a good grasp of geometrical thinking. He is also good at maths and problem solving and this made him the strategist of the group. He is precise and analytical, but in turn sometimes doesn't see the bigger picture and might overlook things if he is too caught up by whatever he is doing. Oskar has a good memory and he can absorb information at ease as long as it interests him personally.

Other
- Unless under extreme stress, Oskar is very calm and the down-to-earth-type. Some people might describe him boring or hard to approach because of that.
- Has a good imagination but it’s usually limited in puzzle solving and plan making. Oskar isn’t particularly artistic and he can’t sing.
- Oskar doesn’t stress often. However, because of this he doesn’t handle stress very well and while he can usually still keep himself in one piece, he has a tendency of whining a lot and getting unironically dramatic about things
- He isn’t very expressive unless having one of his dramatic fits.
- Oskar usually takes care of the way he looks and is very strict about things like how his hair is and what clothes he wears.
- Has a somewhat bad coordination and often walks into things if he doesn’t pay enough attention
- Typical for Taurus people, Oskar values traditions and doesn’t like changes, especially dramatic ones. He can adjust, but it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t get very worried and nervous despite that.
- Not very adventurous and prefers listening others talking about their adventures rather than experiencing them himself.
